Does anyone know any good non-fiction and/or a book by an ethnic author?
I'm in 9th grade and I have to pick a book that's non-fiction and/or a book by an ethnic author (asian, african-american, etc). I can't really decide what kind of book I want to read. I love Jane Eyre, The Tenth Power (part of the Chanters of Tremaris trilogy), and Eragon/Eldest. Yes, I know these are fiction and most of these are fantasy books but something like that. Full of adventure, romance. Just a wonderful book that gives you a rush after you're read it. Yeah, I'm just a little specific.....(I just read The Tenth Power and it's like my new all-time favorite)
*If you want to read The Tenth Power, you should first read The Singer of All Songs and The Waterless Sea (in that order). Amazing trilogy!!!
Several. My first choice would be "How to Talk Dirty and Influence People" by Lenny Bruce.

Music Review of Such Fun by Annuals
Annuals is a six-piece (Indie) band from Raleigh, North Carolina. Their band members consist of Adam Baker (Songwriter/Vocals), Kenny Florence (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals), Mike Robinson (Bass/Backing Vocals), Anna Spence (keyboard/Piano/Backing Vocals), Zak Oden (Drums/Guitar) and Donzel Radford (Drums/Percussion). Their genre are mostly Indie rock, Alternative rock, Indie pop, Experimental rock. Their first album "Be He Me", was released when they were just around the age of 19. And according to major music critic from Rolling Stone to NME to Pitchforkmedia, "Be He Me" received incredible positive reviews. Very impressive if you ask me. 
Such a young band, but already so big at such young age. What more would I ask for if I were a part of Annuals!
Such Fun contains a variety of musical arrangement and landscape, from relaxing country to orchestra ballad.
Their title track, "Confessor" starts off with Adam Baker singing "Pack up and leave..." When it comes to the chorus, everything seems so right, Adam sings in a voice that somehow sounds so soft to my ears. And with the delicious music that blend in so well with the vocals, anyone will have to confess to any mistakes/deeds that he/she committed after listening to song. The Guitar of Kenny can also be heard on and off. Wonderful opener from Such Fun!
"Hot Night Hounds" has a cheerful and fun piano sound to it. It kinda reminds me of my sister's younger days where she played piano in our house every weekend or during her free time. This song can arguably be separated into 2 parts, where the first part is the piano-playing and the second part is the jamming and riffing of the guitar. 2 parts of this song make this song hot and cool!
"Springtime" is a slow and indie pop ballad where it starts off slow and steady. It gradually picks up in the chorus and the tempo of this song suddenly explode and all of a sudden the music background is getting richer, make this song sound so full and rich! Like Annuals are performing at an orchestra show! When Adam is not singing, the rest of the Annuals back it up with "Ba, ba, ba ba ba...." It's beautiful, and it made me want to sing along!
"Down The Mountain" Wow! This song sounds like a song taken from a Cowboy Motion Picture. When I plugged in my earphones to my ears and listened to this song. I was imagining myself in a cowboy movie where I was riding on a horse and chasing, catching and hunting a group of cows/deers/goats/ or other wildlife. It's such fun and cute song to listen to. You can bet to play this song when you are having a game of "getting to the seat when the music stops"! It's just a suggestion. But this song is definitely cute and funny! It made you wanna smile and sometimes, laugh.
"Always Do" made an impression on me that it is a beautiful love song. It's a love song, but angry love song. It seems that this song recalls the old memory of the love between 2 people. Annuals made an impact by exploding in this song. Remember "Brother" from their previous album, "Be He Me"? Well this song recalls me of "Brother". Where it started off slow, and gradually picked up and exploded near the end of the song! It's like building the momentum of this song, or even climbing up to the top of a hill or mountain and screams at his/her peak upon reaching the peak. Those who love "Brother", will definitely love "Always Do".
"Talking" is a fast track where the sound of the guitar can be mostly heard throughout the whole track. The chorus is the only part of the song that made an impression on me, where Adam sings, "Don't let your love decay..." It sounds like Adam is really tired of talking. Honestly, I really think Annuals play and perform perfectly when they are doing a ballad orchestra or in other words, a slower tempo song. "Talking" is a good effort and it ended in a sudden after the riff of the guitar, but if you asked me, I prefer Annuals on indie pop, indie ballad or even indie orchestra if there's such a genre. 
"Hardwood Floor" This song is just so awesome! And I really mean it! It's supposed to be a sad song but I can't help but feeling good whenever listening to this beautiful song. Adam starts off with "I'm so scared I just can't go anymore, I keep patching my rooftop..." From the first listen, it's like singing about a wound that hasn't healed completely. But in reality, after listening to this song, all my wounds are gone, this song is capable of doing so. The part where Annuals sing what sounded to me like, "didn't told dai yo", it is one of the best moment on Such Fun. Well, if you asked me what does it mean, frankly I don't know but it really sound like some African langauge.
"Hair Don't Grow" From the beginning to the end of this song, Kenny's guitar is awesome! Again, it resembles "Down The Mountain" as if it were taken from a Cowboy Motion Picture. But only this time, "Hair Don't Grow" sounds packer, heavier and louder. It's best when you play this song when you're watching some Cowboy movies when the good Cowboys are fighting and shooting against the bad Cowboys. And oh yes, this song would be perfect when Annuals perform them in a gig or concert. The guitar, bass, drum, hand claps and some whistling instrument (Maybe it's violin) just blend in and got together so well and tastefully. Don't blame me if you find yourself nodding your head or tapping your foot away when listening to "Hair Don't Grow".
"The Tape" After listening to this song, I can't help but think that this song is kinda cute and can be used to replace the old and somewhat boring "Silent Night" Christmas Song. A picture of a man playing piano in front of the Christmas tree and his family came to my mind when I listened to this song. Or is it because of the Piano-playing that made this song embraces the atmosphere of the Christmas Season. Not only that, "The Tape" is well accompanied by a number of musical instruments which can be found in a brass band. On second listen, "The Tape" can be a wonderful song for children's brass band.
"Blue Ridge" Yet again, another beautiful song. 
It begins with a man talking and whispering to a baby. Reminds me of fatherly love. Forget Barney! Let your baby listen to Annuals' "Blue Ridge"! Throughout the journey of this song, the music and vocals fit in so well. When Annuals sing together, "To be first in the Sun, to be cursed it might be fun, such fun..." The music that comes along will blow you away. It'll melt you away like a box of chocolate. The violin is brilliant. I wish this song can be longer..
"Wake" started off somewhat in a creepy way. But it continued with a cheerful and happy note. The chorus is a very happy one and the backup vocals done by the rest of the Annuals suits in just well. It also kinda reminds me of the Arctic Monkeys' "A Certain Romance" where it ended on a strong and powerful note! Wonderful indie pop rock song (If there's such a genre).
Rating: Compared to their previous full length album , "Be He Me". "Such Fun" showed that Annuals are evolving as an indie band/artist. They tried to venture into new musical landscape and sound in "Such Fun" while "Be He Me" was somewhat very consistent in their landscape and sound. Overall "Such Fun" was a really good ride. No kidding! It garnered a rating of 7.5 out of 10 from me.
Stand-Out Tracks (My Picks): Springtime, Hardwood Floor, Hair Don't Grow and Blue Ridge.

Common Uses of Usb Pen Drive
Small enough to hook onto a keychain, USB pen drive emulates a small disk drive and allows data to be transferred easily from one device to another. The way it works is very simple. It also works very fast. Since it is a relatively newer device, manufacturers are launching it with added capabilities and higher storage power. Some of the purposes for which it can be used are discussed below.
To transport personal data
The commonest use of USB pen drive is to transport or store personal files such as documents, pictures and video. One can also store medical alert information for emergency use or as preparation against disaster.
Repairing computer
Successful usage of USB pen drive has been noticed in the PC repair field as a means to transfer recovery and antivirus software to infected PCs. It also allows a portion of the host machine's data to be archived in it in case of emergency.
System administrators’ helper
System and network administrators find USB pen drive highly handy to load them with configuration information and software used for system maintenance, troubleshooting, and recovery. Such use of this portable device makes it popular among them.
As an application carrier
USB pen drives are used to carry applications that run on the host computer without the necessity of installation. U3, backed by pen drive vendors, offers an API to pen drive-specific functions. Portableapps, a free and open-source software, has also been developed to allow U3-like functionality on non-U3 drives. airWRX is also an application framework that runs from a pen drive and turns its PC host and other nearby PCs into a multi-screen, web-like work environment.
As audio players
A number of companies make solid state digital audio players in a small form factor, essentially producing pen drives with sound output and a simple user interface. The MP3 playback function is the most popular addition to USB Pen Drive. Some of them also have LCD display for track browsing and audio input jack and a rechargeable battery.

Great Danes
The Great Dane is a big dog that often has no concept of his size. One family fashioned a cowbell on their Dane so they could hear him coming. There was not an aggressive bone in him but when he galloped full bore towards you he'd brush past enough to knock you sideways if you weren't ready for him!
This is a giant of a breed with a gentle heart. They're a clown that is the inspiration for Marmaduke cartoons with the impression of power in television and movies. Danes have been immortalized by the likes of Scooby-Doo and in movies such as The Patriot, The Swiss Family Robinson, Good Boy! Pluto and Goofy are said to be inspired by Great Danes.
They're dignified yet can be goofy. Their very size demands early training and discipline to be calm, loving adults. Gibson, a harlequin, is 42.2 inches and 170 pounds - when he stands on his hind legs he's seven feet tall!
The Great Dane is noble and elegant and a true giant of a dog. They have a history dating back over 400 years where they were used for boar hunting. A dog resembling a Dane was found in materials dated to 1211 B.C. The Great Dane is believed to trace to the Irish Wolfhound and English Mastiff as parent breeds, for the purpose hunting of a fast, powerful and savage foe. Along with hunting for boar they were also used for deer hunting.
By the breed standard they are powerful and smooth muscled with a spirited attitude. The males must be over 30 inches and over 32 inches are preferred as long as he is balanced. This leaves a dog that can be 150 pounds without being fat! Counters are head high to them. A smooth bbut thick coat that shines with good care is ideal.
The Danes come in several colors including brindle, fawn with black mask, blue, black, harlequin and mantle. A harlequin is a pinto pattern of black and white while the mantle is "collie marked" in black and white. This is a breed that strides out level and powerful and is friendly. They shouldn't ever be timid or aggressive. The ears may be cropped or uncropped.
Their giant size means massive growth as puppies that is a challenge to feed. Too fast growth can cause problems with joints while too slow isn't good either. Several health issues can face the breed and are serious enough to warrant attention.
The Great Dane is the #1 breed in statistics for bloat, which is the leading killer of this beautiful breed. It is imperative to feed several small meals per day and restrict exercise immediately afterwards to keep the stomach from filling and twisting. If a twist occurs it causes the dog excruciating pain and he will die in hours without surgical care. This cannot be stressed enough - prevention is much much better than dealing with a dog in crisis. Preventing these giants from drinking large amounts of water is another recommended tip.
Hip dysplasia and hypothyroidism also affect Danes as well as cardiomyopathy. All three of these are genetic and can be tested for to eliminate breeding dogs that will pass the disease on. Cataracts can affect the breed as well as bone cancer and lymphoma. Wobblers or CVI is another serious disorder that results from pressure on the spinal cord in the neck area. Dogs appear unsteady or 'drunk'. HOD - hypertrophic osteodystrophy is a painful disorder resulting from rapid growth. Panosteitis is another disorder that can cause lameness during the growth phase.
The Great Dane needs a fenced yard but keep them away from landscaping as they are apt to rearrange it! Due to their size they should not be left alone with children. Although Danes are not mean dogs their size and playfulness can injure children as well as smaller pets. They are people orientated but do need consistent training from puppyhood! Their size alone deters many problems and they shouldn't be taught to be aggressive.
This is a breed that can be expensive due to the large size and everything from beds to dishes is bigger! If socialized they love people with one Dane owner putting a bell on his dog so there was warning of him coming. The dog was not a bit mean but his size brushing past people could knock you down!
This is a breed that can live 8-10 years and more than one child has climbed up on a Dane to ride them as a small horse. Most dogs take such things in stride but again - the size if playing or wrestling can hurt a small child without ever intending to.
A good diet is critical for these dogs not only in quantity but quality. This is an active breed that loves to run but should do so only in controlled situations. They are not typically barkers without a reason to bark.
When taking on a Dane remember that many people are afraid of large dogs. Be responsible enough to keep your Dane home where he belongs. Fawn Danes in particular are at the mercy of unethical hunters in the fall and more than one Dane has lost his life simply wandering in the woods. In urban areas the dangers can be even higher. Don't take the chance of losing a great dog for lack of a fence, and don't rely on the invisible fences.
Training is not an option but a requirement! They MUST know their place in the pack order (and always below humans!) and firm, consistent handling is key to establishing this. Allowing a Great Dane to dominate a household means someone will get hurt or killed sooner or later, a situation in which both people and dogs lose. It is also one which is preventable. The Great Dane is an intelligent dog that wants to learn and wants to do the right thing - it is up to his owners to teach him what that is!
As of 2007 the world's tallest dog is a Great Dane. The Great Dane is the official dog of Pennsylvania and the team mascot at the University of Albany. A Great Dane has been a member of the South African Navy and the breed is prominent in Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin.
Among the fans of the Great Dane is Burt Ward, famous as "Robin" in the Batman series of the 1960s. He and his wife have a home that gives Great Danes a second chance and 3,000 Danes have found homes since 1994.
The Great Dane is a big dog that is a great dog in the right hands with the right handling. They need a home that is willing to be firm enough to teach manners and discipline but compassionate enough to bolster them and help them be the bold, outgoing adult they are capable of being.
The Dane will give you his heart and his life if need be. Make sure your time with him is worth that kind of devotion!
